Vandalism, petty crime on the rise, cops say

Grove City police are warning residents of a string of thefts and vandalism in all parts of the borough.

The most recent incident was between 8 p.m. Monday and 9 a.m. Tuesday when someone knocked over three portable toilets and broke into a concession stand at the Grove City Little League Field in Pine Township, police said. About $100 in candy was stolen and about $450 in damage was caused, police said.

Police have also been investigating several incidents involving vandalism, many in the South Broad Street area. These incidents range from property being defaced with paint and markers to the destruction of property.

During the past few weeks, police have also investigated several reports of thefts from motor vehicles. Unlocked vehicles are being ransacked during the night, police said. In one case, the vehicle itself was stolen.

Police are urging residents to lock their vehicles, whether they are parked in driveways or parking lots. Police also encourage residents to lock their garages and homes any time they leave them unoccupied.

Police are asking residents and property owners to call police any time they see suspicious activity and are asking anyone who may have information regarding any of the recent incidents to contact the department. Residents should use Mercer County 911 to report activity and to request officers. The 911 center also has a non-emergency number, (724) 662-6110, through which police can be contacted. The police station can be reached at (724) 458-7925 between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. This number should be used for administrative purposes, police said
