Soldier's autopsy
inconclusive
An autopsy conducted Wednesday on the body of a former Stoneboro man found dead at Fort Benning, Ga., Monday was inconclusive.
Rich McDowell, public affairs officer for Fort Benning, said Wednesday evening the Armed Forces Institute of Pathology will conduct further tests to pinpoint a cause of death for 2nd Lt. Zachariah R. Miller, 22, who was found dead at 8 p.m. Monday.
He said the institute usually takes about six weeks before issuing a final report.
Officials have said that foul play is not suspected and his body showed no physical trauma.
Miller was participating in a land navigation training exercise, which began at 9:30 a.m. Monday. He was last seen alive at 1:30 p.m., and a search party was sent out when he failed to meet a four-hour deadline of contacting training cadre.
Miller, the 1998 Lakeview High School valedictorian, graduated last month from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, N.Y., and was recently named a Rhodes Scholar.
McDowell said the Army will comply with the wishes of Miller's family for funeral arrangements.
