Friday shooting was
accidental, police say

Two Hermitage men were treated at UPMC Farrell and released after an accidental shooting Friday in Farrell, police said.

Brad Kettering, 24, Hermitage and Todd Bartel, 24, Sharon were visiting friends in the 100 block of Shenango Boulevard, Farrell, when the subject of guns came up, police said.

Police said Kettering went to his car and returned with a 9mm 0gun which he owns. In the process of showing it to Bartel he accidentally discharged the firearm into the palm of his left hand, police said. The bullet came out the bottom of his hand and entered Bartel's right thigh, police said.

A next door neighbor said she was in her home at the time when she heard one shot. She said the neighbors were having a cookout and she thought she heard a firecracker going off there, but then she heard someone scream. Neighbors called the police.

Police responded to a call at about 6:30 p.m.

No one has been charged in the incident at this point in the investigation, police said.
