A trio of Sharon men, including two brothers, beat up a fourth man who tried to stop one of the men from stealing beer and compact discs from a July 4 party, police said.

Michael Salsgiver, 27, of 387 A St., was arrested at 10:35 p.m. Monday at home on a warrant for aggravated assault, criminal conspiracy and theft, police said. Salsgiver was at a party in the 600 block of Sherman Avenue when he tried to steal several cases of beer and 500 compact discs, police said.

James Ramsey, 35, of Pine Hollow Boulevard, Hermitage, confronted Salsgiver, police said. Salsgiver -- along with Phillip James Root, 23, and Buddy Allen Root, 24, both of 557 New Castle Ave. -- attacked Ramsey, police said.

Police said Ramsey was taken to the hospital of Sharon Regional Health System. . However, a hospital spokesperson said this morning they did not treat Ramsey.

Salsgiver and the Roots were arraigned on assault charges this morning before District Justice James E. McMahon, Sharon, and were taken to Mercer County Jail after failing to post $10,000 bond. Their preliminary hearings are all scheduled for 9 a.m. July 18.
