Fake cop pulls woman over

A man impersonating a policeman pulled a woman over during a fake traffic stop in Sharon, police said.

The 48-year-old Hubbard woman was pulled over at 12:30 a.m. Tuesday at North Water Avenue and Silver Street by a car with a flashing blue light, police said. The man told the woman he was an undercover police detective, police said.

The man asked the woman to see her driver's license and registration, looked at them briefly and let the woman go after he told her to drive more carefully, police said.

The woman told police the man is white and looked very young. He was wearing a white T-shirt with a black vest, a necklace with beads and a tan or white baseball cap worn backward.

Sharon police Capt. Michael Menster said police cruisers in Pennsylvania have flashing red, white and blue lights.

According to the Pennsylvania Vehicle Code, the only vehicles that use flashing blue lights are those for ambulance personnel and volunteer firefighters and dog handlers who use their dogs to track humans.

Menster said motorists do not have to pull over for a plain flashing blue light but should pull over for proper police vehicles that have three flashing colors of lights.
