BROOKFIELD

Baker gets suspended sentence

A former Brookfield police officer won't do any jail time for breaking down the door of his former girlfriend's mobile home.

James Baker, a former lieutenant in the township department, was sentenced Thursday by Trumbull County Eastern District Court Judge Ronald J. Rice on charges of menacing and stalking and criminal trespassing. Baker, 33, pleaded no contest to the charges in June.

Rice sentenced Baker to a total of 210 days in jail on both counts, but suspended the sentence. Baker was also fined $300 and ordered to surrender his Ohio Peace Officers Training certificate.

A police lieutenant for almost ten years, Baker resigned last month a few days before charges were filed against him for breaking into a trailer on April 23 on Joshua Drive, in Wyngate Manor Mobile Home Park. Baker broke down the door of the trailer, but nothing was taken, according to Brookfield police.
