SHENANGO VALLEY

Marchers sought for Buhl parade

Applications to participate in the annual Buhl Day Parade are being accepted. The event is set to start at 9:30 a.m. Sept. 2.

Community and youth groups, organizations and agencies are invited to showcase their service to the area. Walking units, floats, cars and costumed performers are welcome to join.

The three-mile route starts at Hermitage Plaza on State Street and finishes at the entrance of Buhl Farm park. Participants should wear comfortable walking shoes for marching or have a float or car for sitting.

Leading the parade will be three honorees whose gifts of time, leadership and goodwill have followed the standard of philanthropy started by the Buhl family.

Boy Scouts Troop 3 has volunteered to act as guardians of he park and will camp out the night before to secure the park area. Air National Guard will lead off the parade as honor guard. American Heart Association will kick off its annual Heart Walk by recognizing past honorees.

Parade marshals are needed to help line up participants.

While participants are asked to refrain from throwing candy from cars or floats, those who are walking can distribute treats along the parade route.

No advertisements or political campaign signs are permitted. No literature of any kind should be distributed along the parade route.

Vehicles are to refrain from sounding sirens and horns along Buhl Boulevard.

The deadline for registration is Aug. 2 . Letters will be sent out near the end of August to confirm group participation and provide more information.
