Musser principal Calla hired as district's curriculum chief

Michael Calla was hired Monday night as the new supervisor of curriculum and instruction for the Sharon City School District.

Calla of Sharon has worked in the district for 14 years and served the last seven as principal of C.M. Musser Elementary. He will begin his new position today.

Directors voted 7 to 2 to hire Calla with President Rev. Lora Adams-King and Linda Valentino voting no. Directors Dominick Russo, Pamela Corini, Sandra Hoover, Richard Mancino, Joyce Grimenstein, Kathy Hall and Melvin Bandzak voted yes.

Ms. Adams-King said she did not "care to comment" on her vote because it is a personnel issue. "I'm sure he'll do a fine job," she said. She added that she was sure Mrs. Valentino would agree.

"Absolutely," Mrs. Valentino said.

Calla fills the position left vacant when the board hired Dr. Donna DeBonis as superintendent in June.

Calla's salary hasn't been negotiated yet, Business Manager James Wolf said.
