Phar-Mor stores may close under buyout deal
Most Phar-Mor stores could end up closing if winning bidders for the ailing pharmacy chain gets approved by the bankruptcy court.
A group of companies -- Giant Eagle, Hillco Merchants, Ozer Group and CVS Pharmacy -- emerged as the top bidder for the Youngstown-based chain with a reported offer of more than $141 million.
Giant Eagle said most of the Phar-Mor stores would close under terms of the deal hammered out in late-night bargaining Tuesday.
The bid was expected to be submitted this afternoon to federal bankruptcy Judge William Bodah who will decide if the deal can proceed. Objections to the winning bid must by filed by Thursday.
Created in 1982, Phar-Mor has 73 stores including one in Hermitage Towne Plaza.
