Local man ejected, killed in crash when his vehicle rolls

A 36-year-old Clarks Mills man was killed early this morning in a one-car rollover crash in New Vernon Township, police said.

Harold L. Michaels, 36, of 399 Lake Wilhelm Road, Clark Mills, was pronounced dead at the scene at 5 a.m. after he lost control of his car and was ejected, police said.

Police said Michaels was speeding westbound on state Route 358 about 150 feet west of Darney Slater Road, east of Interstate 79, New Vernon Township, when, for unknown reasons, he lost control of his car and went off the right side of the road.

His car crossed the road and went sideways, then rolled and flipped several times before coming to rest in a nearby stream. At some point Michaels, who wasn't restrained, was ejected from the vehicle, police said.

He was pronounced dead at the scene by Deputy Coroner Scott A. Black. The cause of death was multiple force trauma and ruled accidental, according to the county coroner's office. Stoneboro and Sheakleyville Fire Departments assisted Pennsylvania State Police at the scene. An investigation is continuing.
