NEW WILMINGTON

Local photogs' work on display

IF YOU are interested in photography, then a visit to the Shenango Valley Community Library might be fun.

The New Wilmington Camera Club is hosting a print show there through Aug. 1. The display can be seen during regular library hours, from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. weekdays and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Friday and Saturday. The library is located at the corner of State Street and Sharpsville Avenue in Sharon.

Members from Lawrence, Mercer and Butler counties have prints made from digital media, 35 mm and 120 roll film on display. With over 30 members, the club has stressed learning to see, compose, produce, and critique quality photographs since 1980.

Wilmington township resident Ron Heckathorn invites anyone interested in photography to visit one of their meetings, held at 7:30 p.m. on the first and third Tuesday of each month at the Sky Bank community room. All ages and abilities are welcome .

Heckathorn said that expensive equipment is not required. Novices or those wanting to improve existing skills will benefit from workshops offered by the club.

Although club competitions are held, the emphasis is on learning. If you are interested in attending one of the club's demonstrations or have questions, contact the group online at: photobke@aol.com.

A group from United Methodist Church recently returned from their mission trip to Beverly, Ky. Beverly is located in a remote area, with only a post office to bear its name. The team worked at the Red Bird Mission, a Methodist outreach program benefiting those in need for 81 years.

Twenty-four youth and adults worked at several sites; building porches and painting, hanging drywall and even groundskeeping. At the mission, workers helped with Meals on Wheels and at the community store. Workers were able to visit the Cumberland Gap and Pineville State Park during their stay.
