Marijuana sale charges held for court

All charges against a Sharon man accused of selling drugs to a confidential informant were waived to Mercer County Common Pleas Court Tuesday without any testimony before District Justice James E. McMahon, Sharon.

James W. Kendzor, 20, of 649 Stambaugh Ave., was charged by Sharon police with delivery of a controlled substance, conspiracy to deliver a controlled substance and possession of a controlled substance.

According to the affidavit of probable cause:

On Oct. 27, 2001, Kendzor sold marijuana to a confidential informant working for the Mercer County Drug Task Force. Kendzor accepted $160 in state money in exchange for the drug. The sale was made at 261 Washington St., Sharon.

Prior to Oct. 27, 2001, drug task force agents investigated 261 Washington for the distribution of marijuana by a Jason Schang. Agents bought marijuana on two occasions from Schang at 261 Washington.

On Oct. 27, Schang was supposed to sell the marijuana to the confidential informant but was not there when the informant arrived. Schang left the marijuana with "Jimmy" -- who was later identified as Kendzor -- and Kendzor sold the marijuana on Schang's behalf.

The confidential informant told police Kendzor was recognized from other visits to 261 Washington.

This wasn't the first time Kendzor appeared in court. In February 2000, Kendzor used a pay phone on State Street to call in a bomb threat to Sharon High School. The school had to be evacuated and searched after the call. The case went to Common Pleas Court where Kendzor pleaded guilty to making terroristic threats and disorderly conduct; both are misdemeanors.

Kendzor was released on $10,000 unsecured bond.

Schang's preliminary hearing is set for 10 a.m. Thursday before McMahon.
