Man pleads no contest in haunted house case

A Pine Township man accused of groping a teen-ager at a Halloween haunted house pleaded no contest Wednesday to a charge of disorderly conduct.

Police withdrew more serious charges of indecent assault, corruption of minors and two summary harassment charges against Robert Mark Herndon, 43, of 851 Enterprise Road, during a preliminary hearing before District Justice Lawrence Silvis, Worth Township.

Herndon was charged about nine months after the Oct. 7 incident. In court papers filed July 8, state police Trooper Terence A. Whalen said Herndon made lewd comments to several 16-year-old girls waiting to enter the Grove City Haunted House on state Route 173 in Wolf Creek Township and groped one of them while she was inside the haunted house.

Police said Herndon, who was a volunteer at the Halloween attraction, had been drinking alcohol. Some proceeds from the attraction, run by M&B Productions, benefited Grove City Life Support.

Herndon was fined $650 plus court costs and ordered by Silvis to serve six months of probation, undergo a drug and alcohol assessment, have no contact with the victim and to stay away from the Grove City Haunted House during its hours of operation.
