MERCER COUNTY

Rain hinders efforts
to restore power

Randy Coleman, area manager for Penn Power, said electric service should have been restored to all Mercer County customers by 8 or 9 p.m. Friday.

Most of the outages were caused by Thursday's storm, but a few branches came down on wires Friday, creating new problems, Coleman said.

"Things have slowed down considerably with this latest wave of rain," he said. Coleman said the rain put Penn Power two to three hours behind schedule.

At 4:30 p.m. Friday, there were about 25 customers without power, most in the Sharpsville-South Pymatuning area, which withstood the brunt of Thursday's storm.

Crews still had to put up four new poles to replace ones damaged in the storm.

Penn Power also was working on outages in Farrell, Grove City and Mercer.

"I'm sure we'll be getting some more outages as the evening progresses," Coleman said, as customers who had not called in before to report outages do so.
