Car-pickup crash claims 40-year-old woman

An Otter Creek Township woman was killed in a car-pickup accident at 10:40 p.m. Monday on state Route 358 near Hughey Road in Otter Creek Township, state police said.

Tamera "Tammy" K. Myers, 40, of 45 Hughey Road, was pronounced dead at 11:19 p.m. at the scene by Mercer County Deputy Coroner Cris Loutzenhiser, according to a news release from the Mercer County coroner's office.

Mrs. Myers' car was eastbound on Route 358 when it failed to negotiate a left curve and fell onto the berm, police said. Mrs. Myers overcompensated in steering, police said, causing the car to travel back onto the road and turn sideways into the westbound lane into the path of a pickup, driven by David S. Ligo, 24, of Greenville.

Ligo and his passengers, Kelli S. Miller, 23, and Logan P. Smith, 5, both of Pittsburgh, got out of the pickup before it caught fire, police said.

Mrs. Myers died on impact, police said, noting she was not wearing a seat belt.

Ligo, Ms. Miller and Logan were treated at UPMC Horizon, Greenville, police said.

Sheakleyville and Hempfield Township firefighters assisted at the scene, police said.
