Accused brawler on parole is jailed

Jesse "J.J." Wilson, the Sharon man who pleaded guilty to charges for his role in the Sharon-Farrell basketball brawl, spent several days in the Mercer County Jail after violating parole.

Wilson, 20, of 709 Sherman Ave., was taken into custody at his home Friday by Mercer County's Intermediate Punishment department, said Don Fedorczyk, coordinator for Intermediate Punishment. He said Wilson made a "technical violation" of his house arrest program.

Wilson was taken to the Mercer County Jail and remained there until he was released Tuesday, a jail spokesperson said.

Wilson was sentenced in May to serve 60 days to 18 months in jail and pay a $100 fine. The Herald was unable to reach Mercer County District Attorney James Epstein to learn when Wilson was given house arrest.

Wilson pleaded guilty in March to resisting arrest and disorderly conduct while charges of aggravated assault, simple assault, recklessly endangering another person and rioting were dropped.

Wilson, a former Farrell High School football standout, was to report to jail June 19 and was to be released in time to go back to the University of Cincinnati, where he is a strong safety for the football team.

In court Wilson admitted to trying to interfere with the arrest of a juvenile, who is his relative, during a melee in the stands of a February basketball game at Sharon High School.

The fight started between a boy and a girl, one from Sharon and one from Farrell, in the stands and quickly escalated into a brawl involving 70 to 100 people.

A second adult, Demar Allen Claiborne, 18, of 389 Emerson Ave., Farrell, was charged in June with simple assault for allegedly punching an adult in the face during the incident.

At least eight juveniles from Sharon and Farrell have also been petitioned to Mercer County Juvenile Court for their roles in the fight. The resolution of those cases is unknown since juvenile court records are not public.
