New police chief named
New Wilmington has a new police chief, but it will be a number of months before he starts to work.
Carmen D. Piccirillo was hired this week by borough council for the job being vacated by the retiring Richard Hanna.
Piccirillo, 52, of Lakeville, Minn., lived in the borough in the '70s, when he was a state police trooper assigned to the New Castle barracks, but must renew his Pennsylvania police certification.
Piccirillo, who will be paid $42,500 a year, also has been an FBI agent and owned and operated a private investigation firm.
Hanna, who has been chief since 1981, will stay until Piccirillo begins his duties.
