Arson, vandalism damages school

Twice this month Lakeview High School has been the target of arson and vandalism that have cost the district nearly $20,000 in damage.

Most recently a 17-year-old boy set fire to the sports storage building at 1:11 a.m. Aug. 22, state police said. The boy walked into the building near Lakeview High School, set the fire and ran, police said.

The building and all equipment inside were destroyed and the total amount of damage was $10,000, police said.

Charges will be filed against the boy in Mercer County Juvenile Court, police said.

Three juveniles and an adult were charged after police said they broke into the high school between 12:30 a.m. and 2 a.m. Aug. 12.

Once inside the building quartet went into the library where they damaged numerous computers, printers, copiers and pushed books off the shelves, police said. They then went to the second floor, broke into a classroom and damaged more computers, police said.

The total amount of damage was $9,500, police said.

Marcus A. George, 18, of Sandy Lake, was charged with burglary, institutional vandalism and criminal trespass, police said. Two 17-year-old boys and a 16-year old boy were also petitioned to Mercer County Juvenile Court on the same charges, police said.
