Senior Center sets Sept. activities

Shenango Valley Center for Aging/Geriatric Health, a division of Mercer County Area Agency on Aging Inc., 220 N. Buhl Farm Drive, announced September activities.

Assistance with tax, rent rebate and PACE forms is offered by appointment only from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Seniors 60 and older may sign up from 1 to 3 p.m. Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays for the Farmers Market food voucher program.

Other activities include:

   » Monday -- 11:30 a.m., Grandparents Day.

   » Tuesday -- 11:15 a.m., humor therapy with D. Bryne.

   » Wednesday -- 11a.m., "911 Memorial"; 11:30 a.m., "Depression" by Dr. Paul Lange.

   » Thursday -- 11:15 a.m., Elder law update by Attorney Carolyn Hartle.

   » Sept. 17 -- 11:30 a.m., food stamp speaker.

   » Sept. 18 -- 9 a.m., eye glass cleaning and minor repairs by Shirley Shanes of Keystone Blind Association; and 11:30 a.m., "Social Security History" by Rick Gottuso of the Social Security Administration.

   » Sept. 19 -- 11:15 a.m., birthday and anniversary party.

   » Sept. 20 -- Center closed for Senior Celebration from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Shenango Valley Mall, Hermitage.

   » Sept. 24 -- Covered bridge and train trip.

   » Sept. 25 -- 11:30 a.m., medical discussion with Dr. Lange.

   » Sept. 26 -- 11:15 a.m., "Together RX Discount Prescriptions" with Michael Wingard.

Daily activities are puzzles and games. The center is also available afternoons for cards. Seniors may also walk the track from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Computer classes are available by appointment.

A mini-breakfast is served daily from 8:30 to 10 a.m. Donation is $1, if not staying for lunch.

   » Monday -- 9:30 a.m., music therapy with Judy Christ, certified music therapist; 11 a.m., choral group with Jane Bartholomew; 1 p.m., tap dancing by Bonnie Banick; and 1:30 p.m., Mah Jongg.

   » Tuesday -- 9:30 a.m., blood pressure screening with Rural Metro; and balance exercises with Jon Kolb and Corie Komarc of the Physical Fitness Center of Sharon Regional Health System; 10 a.m., crochet/crafts; 10:30 a.m., sing-along; 10:45 a.m. Energy Choreography with Kathy Gracenin; and 3 p.m., Yoga with Joni Laeng. The balance exercise fee is $1.

   » Wednesday -- 10:30 a.m., Tai Chi/Qigong with Nick Gracenin; 1 to 3 p.m., shuffleboard; and 1 p.m., movie classics.

   » Thursday -- 10 a.m., line dancing with Marlene Comunale; 10:30 a.m., discussion group; 11 a.m., yoga; 1:30 p.m., Mah Jongg; and 3 p.m., balance exercises.

   » Friday -- 10:30 a.m., Tai Chi; 11 a.m., speaker/handout; and 1 to 3 p.m., shuffleboard.

The center is open daily from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Lunch is served weekdays at noon for a donation of at least $1.50 that includes the mini-breakfast. Please come in no later than 11:30 a.m. to sign up.
