George W. Fischer ë47 Sharon grad, plant retiree was Korean vet SEWICKLEY, Pa. -- George W. Fischer, a resident since 1962 of Moon Township, Allegheny County, formerly of Sharon, died at 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 4, 2002, in Sewickley Valley Hospital. He was 73. Mr. Fischer was born March 2, 1929, in Sharon to the late John and Theresa Bistritz Fischer. An alumnus of Sharon High School Class of 1947, he retired in 1992 after 40 years of employment as an ingot mould designer for Shenango Inc. in Neville Island, Pa. Mr. Fischer was a U.S. Army veteran, having served during the Korean conflict. He was a member of St. Margaret Mary Church and its 55 Plus group; and the Moon Township unit of AARP, a retired personís organization. He was an avid fisherman and hunter and loved photography. George was the beloved husband for 49 years of Genevieve Keenist Fischer, Moon Township; the loving father of Brenda Kay (Fischer) Cibulas and her husband Bill, Atlanta; and Linda G. Fischer, Moon Township. He was the proud grandfather of William Christopher Cibulas and Jenna Therese Cibulas, both Atlanta. FISCHER Catharine F. Joyce Catharine F. Joyce, 504 Walnut St., Sharpsville, died of natural causes at 1:45 p.m. Thursday (9-5-02) in the hospital of Sharon Regional health System. She was 93. Obituary information was incomplete.
JOYCE Tisher Lee Farrell hospital retiree_was housekeeper Tisher Lee of West Middlesex died at 6:30 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 1, 2002, in her home of acute leukemia. She was 88. Mrs. Lee, originally from Eastlake, Ala., was born Jan. 3, 1914, a daughter of Wiley Johnson and Anna Jones Johnson. She was the seventh of 10 children. A 1934 graduate of Farrell High School, she was an X-ray aide for what was then Shenango Valley Osteopathic Hospital in Farrell, retiring in 1984. After a 25-year career at the hospital, now known as UPMC Horizon, Mrs. Lee worked for many years as a private housekeeper in the Shenango Valley area. She lived in West Middlesex from 1950 until January 2002, at which time she resided with her son, Andrew, and his family in Darnestown, Md., until May of this year. Mrs. Lee then returned home to be with her son, Wesley, in West Middlesex, residing there until her departure. She was a member of Greater Morris Chapel African Methodist Episcopal Church in Farrell and previously belonged to Twin City Elks Lodge 187, also Farrell, for which she at one time played mellophone in the Elks Marching Band. She was also a member of the NAACP and the Frontiers Club. Mrs. Lee enjoyed gardening, exercising and walking, and expanding her knowledge through reading, especially black history and alternative medicines. Tisherís favorite phrase was "Palsy-Walsy." She married Andrew Jackson Lee Sr. of Goodwater, Ala., in 1944. Andrew preceded her in death in 1992. Survivors include her two sons, Andrew Lee, and his wife Geraldine, Darnestown; and Wesley Lee, and his wife Joyce, West Middlesex. Her only surviving sister is Mae Ledbetter, Los Angeles. She also has a sister-in-law, Mozel Johnson, Farrell. She also leaves four grandchildren, Andrew Lee III, Crystal Lee, Wesley Lee Jr. and Alexander Lee; and one great-grandchild. Memorial contributions may be made in her name to the Shenango Valley Senior Citizenís Community Center, 220 N. Buhl Farm Drive, Hermitage 16148. A remembrance celebration honoring Mrs. Lee will be held at 3 p.m. Sept. 28, 2002, in Greater Morris Chapel African Methodist Episcopal Church, 926 Darr Ave. Esther L. Laverty Brookfield homemaker was avid golfer, bowler Esther L. Laverty of 1225 Sharon Hogue Road in Brookfield passed away at 8:30 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 5, 2002, in the hospital of Sharon Regional Health System. She was 86. Mrs. Laverty was born March 27, 1916, in North Braddock, Pa., a daughter of Henry J. and Mary Frances Krohe Koerth. She was a homemaker who prior to her marriage was employed by the former Sharon Transformer Division of Westinghouse Electric Corp. She was a member of Church of Notre Dame, Hermitage. Mrs. Laverty was an avid golfer and bowler, having bowled with the Senior Citizens Bowling League at Hickory Bowl in Hermitage. Her husband, George E. Laverty, whom she married Feb. 15, 1941, passed away Dec. 14, 1991. She is survived by: her son, Brian D. Laverty and his wife Kathy, Hermitage; and three grandchildren, Brett Laverty, Michelle Carr and Lisa Burns, with whom she lived. She also leaves six great-grandchildren, Carly, Eddie and Matthew Burns; and Justin, Brianna and Brandon Carr. She also leaves two stepgrandchildren, Todd Bartel and Chris Bartel. She is survived by a brother, Harold G. Koerth, Vienna. Mrs. Laverty was preceded in death by a daughter, Corrine Boliver; and four brothers, Edwin, Girard, Raymond and Alvin Koerth.
