Woman hit by car on College Ave. crosswalk

A 20-year old Lackawannock Township woman was treated at UPMC Horizon, Greenville, after she was hit by a car while using a pedestrian crosswalk on College Avenue at state Route 18 in Greenville Wednesday afternoon, Greenville-West Salem police said Saturday.

Mary Cedar Kokus of 766 Orchard Road, was hit when she crossed College Avenue near Thiel College where she is a freshman, according to Ms. Kokus. The car that hit her was driven by Elizabeth A. Wood, 52, of Conneaut Lake. According to police, witnesses said that Ms. Kokus looked both ways before she crossed the street and that Ms. Wood's car came around the bend and knocked her to the street.

Ms. Wood, who said she did not see the woman, was charged with not stopping for pedestrians in a crosswalk, police said.
