Motorcyclist killed in JC crash

A Jackson Center man died after his motorcycle crashed into a pickup truck hauling a trailer at 6:15 p.m. Sunday on state Route 358, east of Barney Slater Road in New Vernon Township, state police said.

John R. Jones, 47, was pronounced dead at the scene by Mercer County Deputy Coroner Scott Black.

Police said Jones' eastbound 1999 Harley Davidson crossed the center line and hit the truck, driven by John Archer, 60, of Troy, Pa., as it pulled from a driveway at Elder Sales and Service, and turned left across the eastbound lane into the westbound lane.

Jones and the motorcycle went under the trailer, police said.

Sheakleyville Community and Stoneboro volunteer fire departments assisted, police said.
