Bids for street work over budget

Bids for Farrell's street-improvement program came in higher than estimated, so work on some streets may be put off until another year.

Roscoe Enterprise of Pittsburgh turned in the apparent low bid of $140,883.

Two other bids, opened Wednesday, were $144,264 and $188,072, and another company submitted an incomplete bid.

The city set aside $124,000 in its Community Development Block Grant.

The bulk of the work will be paving Idaho Street from Broadway to Spearman Avenue and Lee Avenue from Roemer Boulevard to Idaho, and installing two catch basins on Lee.

City Manager LaVon Saternow said she probably will recommend striking the improvement of parts of Fruit Avenue and French Street to bring the project within budget.

Council is expected to award a contract Monday.
