The Commodore Perry Area School Board is back at full strength after a meeting Monday night where board members appointed Tracy McCartney to the position vacated by James Foster. He moved from the district and resigned Aug. 19.
Ms. McCartney was installed at the September meeting of the school board. She is a resident of Perry Township and 1980 graduate of Commodore Perry High School.
Ms. McCartney is a medical technologist with UPMC Horizon, and primarily works in Greenville. She earned her bachelor's degree in medical technology from Clarion University in 1985 and served a 12-month internship at St. Vincent Health Center, Erie.
She has a son in sixth grade and a daughter in eighth grade in the school district.
"I want to heighten awareness of the positives of going to a small school," she said. "These kids can join any clubs, sports, anything they want to do." She added being enrolled in a smaller school system gives students opportunities they might not get in a larger district.
The school board now has all nine seats filled. John Schiemer, who filled the seat left by Diane Marshall, was installed at the August meeting.
