School director will pay overdue taxes

Farrell Area School Board member Lester Robinson Jr. has signed an agreement with Mercer County to make installment payments on property taxes he owes for 2000.

The agreement takes his home, 411 Emerson Ave., Farrell, off the list of properties slated for tax sale today, said Michael P. DeForest, county revenue director.

Robinson and his wife, Margaret, owed $416 to the school district, $237 to the city and $111 to the county for 2000, plus penalties, interest and costs.

Robinson's taxes became an issue when Samuel and Sue Rado of Farrell asked at the Sept. 10 school board meeting that any board member who owes back taxes refrain from voting on tax issues.

Two other public figures also have been removed from the tax sale list. School board member Jerome Flint and his wife, Carol, agreed to a payment plan for the 2000 taxes, and Farrell council member Jeannette Wright-Hooks paid off more than $1,200 in back taxes and related costs.
