A man shot in the leg at about 9:30 last night at 504 Beechwood Ave. in Farrell may have been the target of an intruder, police said.

But police found no intruder after the unidentified victim was taken by ambulance to UPMC Horizon, Farrell.

Southwest Mercer County Regional Police Sgt. Albert Rock said he asked neighbors living near the house at Beechwood and Bond Street to leave their homes while emegency medical technicians took the victim out of the house.

The man was being treated at Horizon for a wound to his left leg, Rock said at about 11 p.m.

A woman also was taken from the home to safety, police said.

While police with guns drawn watched the house, others went inside accompanied by a Sharon Police Department dog.

No intruder was found the house or next door at 508 Beechwood, Rock said, adding that they were still investigating what happened.

Neighbors who declined to be named said that they did not hear a gunshot. They said a young couple, who had moved into the neighborhood about four to six months ago, live at 504 Beechwood. A neighbor across the street said he had not noticed any trouble at the home.
