Man accused of assaulting 2 women

A Sharon man was arrested Wednesday on charges that he assaulted two women and tried to perform a sex act on one of them, said Southwest Mercer County Regional police.

Michael Crawford, 20, of 302 Florence St., was arrested at 2:19 a.m. in the 1100 block alley between Emerson and Hamilton avenues, Farrell, police said.

Crawford hit a 35-year-old woman with an aluminum flashlight in the 900 block of Hamilton, police said. She was treated at UPMC Horizon, Farrell, police said.

Police said he also forced his way into a 27-year-old woman's home in the 700 block of Federal Street, Farrell, and tried to perform oral sex on her.

Crawford hit the woman several times, but she did not seek medical treatment, police said.

Crawford was charged with two counts of aggravated assault and one count each of burglary, reckless endangerment, simple assault, aggravated indecent assault and attempted rape, police said.

He was arraigned before District Justice Henry J. Russo, Hermitage, and taken to Mercer County Jail after failing to post $20,000 bond. His preliminary hearing is set for 3 p.m. Wednesday.
