Learning Council offers fall classes

Sharon Lifelong Learning Council has scheduled the following fall 2002 enrichment classes:

   » Competition math -- 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday in Case Avenue Elementary School, Sharon; 5 to 6 p.m. Monday through Wednesday in Musser Elementary School, Sharon; and 7:30 to 8 a.m. Oct. 7 through 10, for fourth- through sixth-graders. Permission slips are required.

   » Art and poetry "Stars and Stripes" -- 3:15 to 4:30 p.m. Oct. 9 and 30; Nov. 6, 13 and 20; and Dec. 4, 11 and 18 in the craft room of West Hill Ministries in First Baptist Church, 301 W. State St., Sharon, for third- and fourth-graders.

   » Computer basics for seniors 55 and older -- 4 to 6:30 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday; or Nov. 11-12 and 14-15, both in Sharon High School Computer Lab Room 222. Cost is $25 for Sharon residents or $35 for non-residents.

   » Microsoft Windows and Office Suite -- 6 to 8:30 p.m. Oct. 7, 8, 10 and 11 in Sharon High Computer Lab Room 222, for adults. Cost is $25 for Sharon residents or $35 for non-residents.

   » Microsoft Word I -- 6 to 8:30 Oct. 14, 15, 17 and 18 in Sharon High Computer Lab Room 222, for adults. Cost is $25 for Sharon residents or $35 for non-residents.

   » Web page creation -- 6 to 8:30 p.m. Oct. 17 and 18 in Sharon High Computer Lab Room 222, for adults. Cost is $10 for Sharon residents or $15 for non-residents.

   » Introduction to Microsoft Access -- 5:30 to 9:30 p.m. Oct. 28 and 5:30 to 8 p.m. Oct. 29 and 30 in Sharon High School Computer Lab. Cost is $25 for Sharon residents; and $35 for non-residents.

   » Microsoft Word II -- 6 to 8:30 p.m. Nov. 4, 5, 7 and 8 in Sharon High Computer Lab Room 222. Cost is $25 for Sharon residents; and $35 for non-residents.

   » "How Money Works" workshop -- 6 to 8:30 p.m. Oct. 21 in Sharon High Room 108, for adults.

   » Cooking casual with in-season food -- 5:30 to 8 p.m. Oct. 22 in Musser Elementary's Art Room, for adults.

   » Holiday treats and decorations -- 5:30 to 8 p.m. Oct. 29 in Musser Elementary's Art Room, for adults.

   » "Read and Discuss" -- 7:30 p.m. the second and fourth Tuesdays of each month, except January and February, in Bennett ESC Building, 215 Forker Blvd., Sharon. "Founding Brothers: The Revolutionary Generation" by J. Ellis will be discussed Oct. 8; "The Feast of Love," by Charles Baxter, Oct. 22; "Sybil: Or, the Two Nations," by Benjamin Disraeli, Nov. 12; and "Collected Stories" by Dorothy Parker, Nov. 26.

   » Shenango Valley "Lights On After School" Rally-- 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Oct. 17 in Sharon High's auditorium.

Dr. Thomas P. Carey, deputy secretary of elementary and secondary education; and Sen. Robert D. Robbins, Salem Township, R-50th District, will speak.
