break-in, shooting

A Farrell man who was shot in the leg Wednesday has been released from a hospital, and police said they have not identified a suspect.

Daniel Dragicevic, 25, of 504 Beechwood Ave. was shot in a basement room of his home with a .25-caliber pistol, police said.

Dragicevic was released from UPMC Horizon, Farrell, the same night, police said.

Dragicevic and his girlfriend reported they were in their home when a tall, light-skinned black man came in the front door, holding a chrome-plated pistol, and demanded that Dragicevic take him to his safe, police said.

The victim led the man to the basement, where there was no safe, and the intruder fired a single shot, police said.

The bullet lodged in Dragecevic's left thigh, police said.

A .25-caliber shell casing was found in the room, police said.

The men went back upstairs and the residents lost track of the intruder.

When police were called at about 9:30 p.m., no one was sure if the intruder, who might have had a bandana hanging over part of his face, was still inside. Southwest Mercer County Regional and Sharon police searched the house and a neighboring one, finding no one.

Some neighbors were evacuated briefly.

Neighbors could offer police no additional help.

"We canvassed the neighborhood and no one saw or heard anything," said interim Police Chief Douglas Long, adding that it's possible the shot could not have been heard outside the house.
