Ohio fugitive nabbed

A Youngstown man wanted by Ohio authorities was arrested Friday afternoon in Hermitage after police staked out a location he was expected to visit.

Arian S. O'Connor, 25, was arrested after a short car chase at the Broadway Avenue/Route 18 on-ramp to Route 60, police said.

O'Connor was wanted on two fugitive warrants, one from Youngstown police for felonious assault with a gun, and a second from Ohio parole authorities for violating parole on a separate felonious assault conviction, police said.

Mahoning County Violent Crimes Task Force contacted Hermitage police and said O'Connor might visit a Route 18 motel, police said. Police from both agencies staked out the motel and O'Connor showed up, but fled in a waiting car southbound on Route 18 before he could be arrested, police said.

Mahoning authorities said O'Connor should be considered armed and dangerous, and during the chase he threw a loaded 9 mm pistol out the car window, police said. The pistol was reported stolen from Youngstown, police said.

O'Connor was arrested without incident, police said.

Hermitage police said they arrested O'Connor on the two fugitive warrants and charges of receiving stolen property, carrying a firearm without a license and another firearm violation.
