Police report rash of car break-ins, thefts

A rash of vehicle break-ins occurred in several different Hermitage business parking lots between Thursday and Monday, police said.

A compact disc stereo player, a gift-wrapped silver money clip and five CDs, with a total value of $250, were taken between 4 and 8:45 p.m. Thursday from a vehicle outside an East State Street grocery store , police said. The vehicle was locked but the driver's side window was left open an inch or two, police said.

A CD stereo player, valued at $90, and four CDs with a total value of $80 were taken between 4:45 and 10:20 p.m. Thursday from an unlocked vehicle outside an East State Street restaurant, police said. During the same time, another vehicle in the lot was entered and a CD stereo player, valued at $95; 40 CDs, valued at $430; and a black vinyl zipper case, valued at $15, were taken, police said, adding that a door in each vehicle was left unlocked.

An empty purse and a tote bag with about $65 worth of makeup, clothing, and a curling iron were taken at about 3 p.m. Saturday from a car outside an East State Street restaurant, police said. A window was shattered to gain entry and a witness reported it to someone inside, police said.

Two vehicles outside a Shenango Valley Freeway retailer were entered between 10 p.m. Sunday and 7:07 a.m. Monday, police said. A $50 CD stereo player was taken from one, and the driver's side window of a second was smashed but nothing was taken from it, police said, adding a patrolman noticed the broken window.
