Former Thiel pastor
to speak to honorees
The Rev. Dr. J. Paul Balas III, a 1962 Thiel graduate and Thiel College campus pastor from 1978 to 1989, will serve as keynote speaker for the college's annual Honors Convocation at 7 p.m. Friday in the William A. Passavant Memorial Center.
Two hundred and fifty students -- including scholarship recipients, academic honorary members and dean's list honorees -- will be recognized for their academic achievements earned during the 2001-2002 academic year.
Freshmen scholarship recipients also will be announced.
Balas is associate professor of pastoral theology at Lutheran Theological Seminary in Gettysburg, a position he has held since leaving Thiel in 1989.
