Area groups ready to 'Make a Difference'

The following groups are planning activities for Make A Difference Day on Oct. 26:

Kennedy Catholic
Action Club

Kennedy Catholic's Action Club in Hermitage is sponsoring a "Hats Off for Children," program. They will be collecting hats through October and donating them to Children's Hospital in Akron and/or Tod's Children's Hospital in Youngstown for kids with cancer who have undergone surgery.

Sis. Margaret Pellrite is the advisor for Action Club. Call Jennifer at (724) 342-1232 for more information.

Hubbard Chamber
of Commerce/Troop 18

The Hubbard Area Chamber of Commerce is asking residents and businesses to donate new underwear, socks, T-shirts, sweat pants and shirts, sizes 6 to 12, along with monetary donations for less-fortunate elementary school children as part of the Chamber's "Operation Seat Cover" clothing drive.

Girl Scout/Brownie Troop 18 will assist with the project. Donations will be accepted at the following Hubbard locations: East Hill Florist, Progressive Printing, Steven's Optical, Hair Designs by Lark, and the nurse's office at Roosevelt Elementary School.

Northern Mercer County United Way

Northern Mercer County United Way is sponsoring a "Clean-up Greenville" Day Oct. 26. For more information call (724)588-4344.

Mercer County Council of Republican Women

The Mercer County Council of Republican Women will be collecting a variety of items such as sweats, undergarments, crafts, supplies, bedding, toiletries and diapers for AW/ARE, Mercer County's domestic abuse agency. The Republican Women will also donate elephant beenie babies, sending a message that the Republican Party never forgets. They will present their donation at 11 a.m. Oct. 24 at the Courthouse at the AW/ARE in Mercer. Dorothy Hurtt is president of the group. For more information, call Frances Pavcik at (724) 962-7178.

The Sharpsville Women's Club

The Sharpsville Women's Club will be making a monetary donation to the Community Food Warehouse of the Shenango Valley, Farrell. Agnes French is president of the Sharpsville Women's Club.

Winner Advertising

The team at Winner Advertising is hosting "Spooktacular Tales" from 2 to 3 p.m. Oct. 26 at the Shenango Valley Library. Maria Ackley, a local professional entertainer, will present the spooky tales to children. Children are invited to dress in their Halloween costumes while listening to Halloween stories and enjoying milk and cookies for their treat. Call Joyce at (724) 981-1566 for additional information
