Man accused of burning woman headed to court

A Farrell man accused of throwing hot grease on a woman is headed to court to face assault and other charges.

All charges against Charles D. Norris, 29, of 1225 Roemer Blvd., were waived to Mercer County Common Pleas Court at a preliminary hearing Thursday before District Justice James E. McMahon, Sharon. Norris is charged with aggravated and simple assault, recklessly endangering another person and retaliation against a witness or victim.

No testimony was given and Norris was returned to Mercer County Jail after failing to post $100,000 bond.

Police say he attacked Crystal Bailey, 24, of 805 Ravine Place, Sharon, at a home in the 300 block of Quinby Street on Sept. 30. Norris barged into the home, punched Ms. Bailey in the face and threw hot cooking grease on her, police said.

Ms. Bailey was treated at the hospital of Sharon Regional Health System for second- and third-degree burns, police said.

Norris ran before police could get to the home and was missing until Oct. 9, when Southwest Mercer County Regional Police arrested him in a home in the 700 block of Wallis Avenue in Farrell, where he had been hiding.

Norris barricaded himself in an upstairs bedroom but surrendered after several minutes, police said.

In December, Norris was charged by Southwest police after he hit a woman in the eye with a drinking glass and punched her and hit her with the broken glass, police said. That same month he was charged by Sharon police who said he went to the home of a woman who was to testify against him in the assault, parked in front of her home, opened his car doors and played songs with violent content.

Norris was arrested again in March on charges of burglary, criminal trespassing, intimidation of a witness or victim, retaliation against a witness or victim, making terroristic threats, simple assault, recklessly endangering another person and criminal mischief after police said he broke into a woman's home and went into her bedroom with a butcher knife, police said.

Norris ripped the phone out of the wall when the woman tried to call 911 and told her he would come back if she told police his name, police said.
