Students, teachers cited by Pa. group

Three Mercer County church students received first-place honors in the annual Pennsylvania State Sunday School Association's Poster/Essay/Poetry-Plus Contest, while three Sunday school teachers in the county were recognized for 50 years of service.

In the PEP-Plus Contest, Carly Turk of South Pymatuning (Township) Community Church gained two firsts in the ages 12 to 14 division -- in the essay and the T-shirt categories.

Other firsts went to Elizabeth Ferringer of First United Methodist Church, Sharpsville, for ages 9 through 11 in the poster category; and Isaac Sutley of Clarks Mills United Methodist Church, Perry Township, for ages 6 through 8 in the T-shirt category.

Two other countians also placed -- Deana Snyder of Sharon Alliance Church, who was second in ages 3 through 5 T-shirts; and Aron McConnell of East Side (Baptist-Disciples of Christ) Church, Sharon, who was third in ages 12 through 14 posters.

Sunday school teachers recognized for a half century or more of service included Charlene McCullough, Margaret Hunter and Evelyn Leisher, all of Faith Presbyterian Church, Hermitage.
