A Brookfield woman died and a Masury man was injured after they were hit by at least one vehicle Friday while walking across Route 62 in the township, police said.

A Sharon man who was driving a car that hit them has been arrested, said the Ohio Highway Patrol.

Sue A. Combine, 25, of 7467 Sharon-Stewart Road, was pronounced dead at St. Elizabeth's Health Center, Youngstown, police said. She was taken there after initially being treated at the hospital of Sharon Regional Health System, police said.

An autopsy will be performed on Ms. Combine's body in Cleveland, but police said they were not sure when.

Jeffrey B. Culp, 26, of 7908 Rose Ave., was listed in fair condition Saturday at UPMC Horizon, Farrell, a hospital spokeswoman said.

Edward Rinko, 48, of 632 E. State St., has been charged with aggravated vehicular homicide and was taken to Trumbull County Jail, police said.

Ms. Combine and Culp were walking west on Broadway Avenue crossing Route 62 at 8:30 p.m. when Rinko's car, which was northbound on Route 62, hit them, police said.

Rinko left the scene and Ms. Combine or Culp might have been hit by as many as two other vehicles while they were lying on the roadway, police said, adding that they are asking anyone with information to call them at (330) 898-2311.

Rinko eventually returned to the scene and admitted that his car hit the couple, police said.

Rinko, who was treated at the scene for minor injuries, will be arraigned in Trumbull County Eastern District Court, Monday at the earliest, police said.

The aggravated circumstance was that Rinko was speeding, police said.

Brookfield firefighters assisted.
