A Sharon man faced a charge of aggravated vehicular homicide Monday morning in Trumbull County Eastern District Court, Brookfield, in connection with Saturday night's death of a Brookfield woman.

Edward Rinko, 48, of 632 E. State St., was arraigned before acting Judge Randy Rudloff of Warren. Rudloff was sitting in for Eastern District Judge Ronald Rice, who was out of town. Rinko was charged in connection with the death of Sue A. Combine, 25, of 7467 Stewart-Sharon Road.

Ms. Combine and Jeffrey B. Culp, 26, of 7908 Rose Ave., Masury, were walking west on Broadway Avenue across U.S. Route 62 in Brookfield at 8:30 p.m. Saturday when Rinko's car, which was northbound on Route 62, hit them, the Ohio State Highway Patrol said.

Rinko left the scene and Ms. Combine and Culp might have been hit by as many as two other vehicles while they were lying on the roadway, police said. The highway patrol asked anyone with information to call (330) 898-2311.

Rinko eventually returned to the scene, where he was treated for minor injuries, and admitted that his car had hit the couple, police said. He was charged with aggravated vehicular homicide because he was speeding, police said.

Rudloff ordered Rinko to be placed on a $25,000 personal recognizance bond for the third-degree felony and told him he had to stay with his mother, Anne Cataldi of 32 Bluff St., Sharpsville.

"He should sit in jail, but if you are willing to assume some measure of responsibility for him, that will give me some measure of comfort," Rudloff said.

Rinko also was ordered not to drive during the court process and to meet with a probation officer every Friday.

His preliminary hearing is scheduled for Thursday in Eastern District Court.

Culp was released Monday from UPMC Horizon, Farrell, a nursing supervisor said.
