For the second time in two months, the Reynolds school board has a new director.
Directors voted 5 to 3 Wednesday to appoint the Rev. Bruce E. Wilson of 192 Vernon Road, West Salem Township. He succeeds Elizabeth Schuffert, who resigned last month for health reasons.
Also applying for the vacancy were West Salem residents Donald F. Fedorczyk, 36 High Road; Bernice E. Julian, 215 W. Jamestown Road; and Frank A. D'Urso, 143 Coal Bank Road.
"It's nice to see four very good candidates come forward," said director Jeff Colson.
Colson, Barry Nelson, Gary Preston, Maddox Stokes and John Lowry voted for Rev. Wilson. Dan McBride, Dr. George Reeher and board President Brad Stull voted for D'Urso.
Rev. Wilson, pastor of First Church of God in Greenville, said he wants to give his time to the school board.
"I just want to work alongside the folks that are already here and support them any way I can," he said. "I just want to give back to the community and just work with the school district."
The board will hold off on appointing an academic affairs committee chairperson and committee member and a personnel committee member, as well as filling a vacancy on the Midwestern Intermediate Unit IV board, until the Dec. 4 reorganization meeting. Those vacancies were created by Mrs. Schuffert's resignation.
Mrs. Schuffert was the second board member to resign in the last several months. Director Sue Mitchell resigned in August when she moved out of the district and was replaced by Lowry.
