18-year-old admitted burglar gets jail time

An 18-year-old Hermitage man who pleaded guilty to burglary was sentenced Monday in Mercer County Common Pleas Court.

Nicholas Hatkevich of 555 Lyle Drive was arrested May 11 after a break-in at 1385 Bolde Drive, Hermitage.

Police said Hatkevich and a juvenile broke into the apartment and stole a safe containing more than $1,000 in jewelry, coins and currency.

Hatkevich was originally charged with burglary, conspiracy to commit burglary, theft by unlawful taking, conspiracy to commit theft by unlawful taking and corruption of a minor.

He pleaded guilty to the felony burglary charge Oct. 8.

Hatkevich was ordered to pay $1,180 in restitution and was sentenced to 6 to 18 months in jail, followed by 18 months' probation.

"You have severely limited your horizons," Judge Thomas R. Dobson told Hatkevich.

Hatkevich apologized for his actions.
