Ignoring court order lands man in jail
to await sentencing

A Farrell man was taken to jail and his sentencing was postponed Tuesday because he failed to comply with a court order.

Eric L. Hopson, 25, of 928 Beechwood Ave., didn't show up for a Nov. 13 appointment with the county's cost collection agent despite both oral and written notice, said Mercer County Common Pleas Court President Judge Francis J. Fornelli.

Fornelli revoked Hopson's bond until the proper paperwork is complete.

Hopson pleaded guilty to resisting arrest and possession of a controlled substance in one case and to drunken driving and driving under suspension in another case.

On Oct. 24, 2001, two Southwest Mercer County Regional patrolmen said they went to pick up Hopson on a warrant and he hit one of them in the mouth. Two Pennsylvania Probation and Parole agents helped the patrolmen subdue Hopson, police said.

Hopson suffered a broken arm in the struggle.

At the time, Hopson had $3,700 in his pockets and two bags of suspected crack cocaine and a partly smoked marijuana-stuffed cigar in his coat, police said.
