Pump
still isn't
working
properly

Greenville Municipal Authority is still traveling troubled waters.

The authority's new, $20,000 pump, which did not work when it was installed the first time, has been repaired, reinstalled and turned on.

It still doesn't work properly.

Municipal board treasurer Dick Miller said the pump was running at about 75 percent capacity, "which is barely enough to meet our needs."

Representatives from the company that installed the pump and from the pump's manufacturers were at the filtration plant Friday morning to determine what was going on, Miller said.

The pump, which had been shipped to the filtration plant Nov. 6, worked for about an hour before it broke down.

The pump was returned to its manufacturer and repaired. It arrived Nov. 25 and was re-installed the next day.

It was not scheduled to be turned on until this week, water superintendent Bill Brady had said, because of scheduling problems between contractors, electricians and engineers.

The borough continues to operate under a water conservation request. In case of pump failure, the authority has a backup electric pump and also an external diesel pump that can be used in an emergency.
