Authority nets a high score on maintenance of properties
Mercer County Housing Authority did very well on its report card for the maintenance of its properties.
Out of a possible score of 100, the authority earned a 95, said Executive Director L. DeWitt Boosel.
He complimented the maintenance department for the score.
"That is no easy task," he said.
The authority scored between 94 and 99 in all of its public housing apartments except for two: Garster Homes in Farrell netted a 78 and Sharpsville Gardens an 87.
The authority was penalized in those communities for dirty stoves, a refrigerator that was not properly sealed and faulty dryer vents.
While maintaining appliances is the responsibility of the tenants -- tenants have to provide their own refrigerators -- the authority is looking into starting an education program on maintaining appliances.
