A Wheatland man has been charged with threatening a man who is cooperating with police in the prosecution of another Wheatland man.

William Reed, 18, of 120 Fleetwood Court, was arrested at 11:30 a.m. Thursday near Chestnut Street and Council Avenue, Wheatland, on a warrant charging him with making terroristic threats and intimidating a witness, Southwest Mercer County Regional police said.

At 9 p.m. Dec. 3, Reed approached a man who is a witness in the case of Gerald Burger and threatened to bash the man's head in for getting Burger in trouble, police said.

Reed started toward the man, but the man drove away, police said.

The man told police he heard Reed say that he got a letter from Burger telling Reed to bash in the man's head, police said.

Burger, 54, of 59 Laird Ave., Wheatland, has been charged with theft, criminal trespassing and burglary for taking two men to a house he did not own on Nov. 7 in the 200 block of Lincoln Avenue, Farrell, and offering to sell them the house, police said.

Burger took a $400 deposit, but did not have any right to be there, police said.

Charges against Burger were held for court Dec. 6 by District Justice Henry J. Russo, Hermitage. Burger has been imprisoned at the state Regional Correctional Facility in Findley Township on a detainer, police said.

Reed was arraigned before Russo and taken to Mercer County Jail after failing to post $5,000 bond.

His preliminary hearing is set for 2:45 p.m. Friday.

Reed pleaded guilty Nov. 22 to a charge of criminal mischief for breaking into a home at 57 Canal St., Wheatland, on Oct. 27. Russo fined him costs and $625 restitution and put him on 1 year of state probation.
