Eustace N. Booher Local man had Sandy Lake business, worked in Franklin Eustace N. Booher, 916 Methodist Road, Hempfield Township, died at 7:05 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 12, 2002, in White-Cliff Nursing Home, Hempfield Township. He was 91. Mr. Booher was born May 16, 1911, in Sandy Lake to Frank J. Booher and Lillian Barnes Booher. He was a 1930 graduate of the former Sandy Lake High School. A veteran, he served in the U.S. Army National Guard, Second Squad, from 1931 to 1933. From 1930 to 1962, he was the owner/operator of Booher's Petroleum Products of Sandy Lake. From 1940 to 1943, Mr. Booher and his wife owned Maple Springs Restaurant and Gas Station in Barkeyville. In 1962 to 1963 he worked at Polk Center as an attendant. From 1965 to his retirement in 1977, he was employed at Franklin (Pa.) Steel Division. Mr. Booher was a member of Lakeview United Methodist Church of Sandy Lake; and also attended Sandy Lake Presbyterian Church, Clarks Mills United Methodist Church, North Sandy Presbyterian Church in French Creek Township and Christian Assembly Church of Greenville. Having served as a grange master at Sandy Lake Grange, in the 1960s he started the teen dances. He was also a former member of Independent Order of Odd Fellows Lodge 573 in Sandy Lake. Mr. Booher enjoyed square dancing, pitching horseshoes, camping, reading, playing cards and driving. He was a great host of numerous functions. He married Myrtle Daniels on Aug. 13, 1940. She died April 27, 1993. He then married Jessie Pierce on Jan. 21, 1999. She died Jan. 23, 2000. Surviving are: two daughters, Betty Pizer, Meadville; and Mrs. Dennis (Beverly) Stake, Greenville; one daughter-in-law, Barbara Booher, Stoneboro; one son, Richard Booher, Sandy Lake; one son-in-law, Milton Calvin, Greenville; and 13 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren and several great-great-grandchildren. Besides his first and his second wives, he was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Mary Calvin; one son, Sonny Booher; and two brothers, Jefferson and Lloyd Booher. BOOHER Alice Genevieve Grundy Artman White Homemaker was active in Lackawannock Twp. church A funeral service will be held Monday for Alice Genevieve Grundy Artman White, New Wilmington, formerly of 3951 Bethel-New Wilmington Road, Wilmington Township. She passed away at 10:10 a.m. Thursday (12-12-02) in The Overlook nursing home, New Wilmington. She was 85. Mrs. White was born Dec. 19, 1916, in Aliquippa, a daughter of Robert McClain Grundy and Jessie Mae Jackson Grundy. She was a graduate of Hickory High School Class of 1935, in what is now Hermitage. Mrs. White was a homemaker and a former member of Wilmington Grange 1477, participating in its quilting circle. As a member of Lebanon Presbyterian Church in Lackawannock Township, she taught Sunday school and served with the Women's Association and the church choir. She loved to sing and, with her children, frequently harmonized on hymns and gospel choruses. A great baker and excellent pie maker, Mrs. White made an exceptional butterscotch meringue pie and luscious apple dumplings. She sewed clothing for herself and family members, and crocheted and canned an assortment of fruits and vegetables, always providing a good home for her family. She loved watching John Wayne movies and had a large collection of his movies on video. Mrs. White also enjoyed working crossword puzzles and reading. Her first husband, Gerald Hover Artman, whom she married June 21, 1935, died June 12, 1977. Her second husband, John White, whom she married in 1979, preceded her in death. Surviving are: six daughters, M. Floy Moreira, New Wilmington; Helen S. Lents, Mesa, Ariz.; Aurel J. May, Modesta, Calif.; Merilyn J. Zaitoon, Baton Rouge, La.; J. Gail Mounts, Youngstown; and Lois C. Heavilin, also Youngstown; one son, Robert V. Artman, Grove City; and one brother, Dan Grundy, West Middlesex. Mrs. White also leaves 16 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. Besides her first and second husbands, she was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Donald Ray Artman; two brothers, Wallace and James Grundy; and one granddaughter, Rhonda May. Memorial contributions may be made to Lebanon Presbyterian Church, 2090 Mercer-West Middlesex Road, West Middlesex 16159.

UNIONTOWN, Pa. -- A funeral Mass will be held Monday for Katherine Holub Jacobson, 410 Terrace Drive, Uniontown, formerly of Sharon. She died of natural causes at 1:28 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 12, 2002, in Cherry Tree Nursing Center after an extended illness. She was 94. Mrs. Jacobson was born Nov. 15, 1908, in Sharon to George Holub and Martha Virostick Holub. She was employed at the former Guys and Dolls children's shop in Hermitage and American Laundry in Sharon. She later was a clerk for 13 years at the former Sharon Store in downtown Sharon. Mrs. Jacobson was a member of St. Joseph's Church in Sharon and its Senior Church Club. She also belonged to North Sharon Volunteer Fireman's Auxiliary. Her husband, John B. Jacobson, whom she married Nov. 20, 1928, died March 6, 1962. Surviving are: one daughter, Mrs.. Edward (Marthann) McKee, Hopwood, Pa.; two sons, (John) David Jacobson, Overland Park, Kansas; and Timothy S. Jacobson, Gig Harbor, Wash.; two sisters, Mrs. Robert (Helen) Charles, Greenville; and Mrs. Bruce (Martha) Ledden, Sharpsville; one brother, Nickolas and his wife Barbara Holub, Sharon; and 13 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. Besides her husband, Mrs. Jacobson was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Mary Freeburg and Anna Ristvey; and one brother, Michael Holub.
JACOBSON Arthur H. 'Tag' Adams WWII vet, Scout leader was Optimist, GATX retiree Arthur H. "Tag" Adams, 8251 Drake Stateline Road, Hartford, died at 11:50 a.m. Friday, Dec. 13, 2002, in St. Elizabeth Health Center, Youngstown. He was 78. Mr. Adams was born May 22, 1924, in Warren, Ohio, a son of Arthur L. Adams and Orpha Mae Knott Adams. He retired in 1978 from General American Transportation Corp.'s former Masury plant, where he was employed for 36 years. Mr. Adams was World War II veteran, serving in the Army. He was in the Battle of the Bulge and participated in campaigns in England, France and Germany. He was a communications expert in Company AAA the 789th. He was a past president and founding member of the Hartford Optimist Club; a lifetime member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3535, Hartford; and was a former Boy Scout leader, taking scouts to Philmont, N.M.; Canada; and Virginia. Mr. Adams enjoyed gardening, mechanics and fishing. His wife, the former Estelle Ledney, whom he married Oct. 12, 1946, survives at the residence. Surviving are: four daughters, Mrs. Ronald (Elaine) Callen, Jamestown; Mrs. David (Susan) Bonar, Mrs. James (Lisa) Flowers and Mrs. John (Lori) Lattin, all Hartford; two sons, Hank Adams and his wife Carol, Arlee, Mont.; and Mark Adams and his wife Pam, Jamestown; one sister, Mrs. James (Ruth) Judy, Hartford; and 14 grandchildren and two great-grandsons. Mr. Adams was preceded in death by two sisters, Elsie Miller and Alice Wahl.
