Covenant Presbyterian names interim pastor

The Rev. Dr. Eric C. Powell has been called as interim pastor at Covenant Presbyterian Church, 263 E. State St. He will preach at the 8 and 11 a.m. services Sunday. A reception in his honor will follow the 11 a.m. service.

Rev. Powell lives in Canonsburg, Pa., where he was born and raised. Having felt called to ministry before attending Messiah College, he attended Union Theological Seminary, where he also completed a doctor of ministry in adult education.

He later earned a master's degree in pastoral counseling from Ashland University and completed interim ministry training at Pittsburgh Theological Seminary.

Since his 1986 ordination, Rev. Powell has served five churches and was head of staff in two. His most recent ministry was at Stone Presbyterian Church in Wheeling, W.Va.

Rev. Powell holds to the tenants of the Reformed faith and the statements of the Confessing Church Movement.
