This holiday season, sons and daughters, brothers and sisters, and moms and dads of local families are away from home, serving their country in the U.S. military.

   » Pvt. Joseph P. Boyd, B-Co 2187INF, Fort Campbell, KY 42223. Boyd, a graduate of Hickory High School in Hermitage, was in Afghanistan for six months at the beginning of the year. He is in Fort Campbell with the 101st Airborne.

   » Master Sgt. James P Walsh, 960 Greystone Drive, Biloxi, MS 39532. He is stationed at Keesler Air Force Base and has off-base housing. Walsh, a 1982 graduate of Sharon High School, has been in the Air Force for 18 years.

   » Spec. Nichalos Axe, BMR 464 Box 728, APO AE 09226. Axe, who is stationed with the Army in Germany, will be spending his first holiday overseas.

   » Staff Sgt. Lesi A. Lyons, 577 Emerald Lane, Fort Walton Beach, FL 32547. Lyons, a 1992 graduate of West Middlesex High School, is Wozniak's sister and also is stationed at Eglin Air Force Base.
