Forbes 2nd councilman to resign in 2 days

Greenville Councilman Ian Scott Forbes resigned Monday, the second council member to quit in as many days.

Bryan Langietti, former council president, resigned from council Sunday citing personal reasons and dissatisfaction with borough council and administration.

Forbes' wife, Carol, said her husband resigned for health reasons, namely his battle with leukemia.

"When I accepted my appointment to council a year ago I was in reasonably good health, considering I was undergoing treatment for leukemia. I was truly looking forward to being able to contribute to my community and hoped that I could help Greenville move forward," Forbes' resignation letter said. "Recently, however, the leukemia has come out of remission and I now find myself physically unable to continue to attend council meetings or participate in any outside activities."

In his letter, Forbes encouraged the remaining city council members to make a united, positive effort for the good of the borough. He said he's been "troubled by some of the animosity and division shown in the past months regarding borough matters."

"My time to fight the good fight has come to an end," Forbes wrote. "I challenge the next generation of potential leaders of Greenville to step forward to take my place, to take the mantle and charge onward to make the town I love a better place."

Councilman David P. Henderson said Langietti's resignation took him by surprise. "Forbes' resignation was more expected, but Forbes' resignation was a crushing blow and a true loss to the borough."

Council has 30 days to fill the two seats; Henderson said that likely will be in January.

Residents interested in filling the posts should send letters of interest and a resume to the borough building in care of council, Henderson said.
