Proposed water district
gets trustees' support

Brookfield trustees unanimously passed a resolution Tuesday in support of a study for the formation of a water conservation district.

Trustee J. Philip Schmidt said he thinks the township needs to be part of the project, and the first step is to conduct a study to see if a water district is feasible.

The district would take in Brookfield, Hubbard and Liberty townships. Right now, there are residents in those townships who aren't getting water.

Several areas in Brookfield that are without water are so far apart that it would be very costly to provide service without a joint effort, trustees said in the past.

The water is there. It's just a matter of getting it to the residents, Trustee Janalyn K. Saloom said.

Pat Ungaro, a Liberty Township trustee, said trustees there haven't acted on any motions concerning the water district but he expects them to pass a resolution supporting it before Christmas.

The Herald wasn't able to contact Hubbard Township trustees to learn if they have taken any action concerning the district.

Trustees from the three townships met recently with the Columbus, Ohio, law firm of Albers and Albers and discussed the possibility of establishing a southeast water district. Attorney John Albers said the first step is to conduct a feasibility study to explore engineering and service-provider costs.
