A Shenango Township man whose brother's mobile home was destroyed by a fire Nov. 15 has been charged with assaulting a policeman and interfering with firefighters that night.
Peter J. Fuchs, 42, of 36 E. Paul St., turned himself in Wednesday at the office of District Justice Henry J. Russo, Hermitage, on a Shenango warrant charging him with aggravated and simple assault, resisting arrest, failing to disperse, disorderly conduct and harassment.
At the fire scene, Michael Fuchs told police that he had guns in the home, police said. When firefighters found the gun cabinet and removed it, police said they asked Fuchs to identify it and make sure nothing was missing.
Peter Fuchs and a group of family members came over, and the policeman had to ask them several times to step back, police said.
Peter Fuchs yelled and argued with the policeman, using obscene language, and jammed a finger in patrolman Jason Newton's face and chin, police said.
When Newton tried to handcuff Fuchs, Fuchs wouldn't cooperate, police said.
Firefighters had to stop fighting the fire and help keep family members away from Newton and Fuchs, police said.
Peter Fuchs called for someone to help him and Newton Maced him, police said.
Peter Fuchs was arrested, but was released at the scene to his wife, police said.
Newton was treated at UPMC Horizon, Farrell, for injuries to two fingers, police said.
Peter Fuchs was arraigned by Russo and released on his own recognizance. His preliminary hearing is set for 3 p.m. Jan. 3.
