Javorsky
retiring from city fire dep't.

After 24 years of service in the city of Sharon, Capt. Mike Javorsky is going to retire from the Sharon Fire Department.

Javorsky was hired in August of 1979 and was promoted to Lieutenant in December of 1989. He was then promoted to captain in September of 1996.

Javorsky's retirement will be effective Jan. 1.

"Capt. Javorsky was dedicated to his firefighting profession and was very knowledgeable regarding fire prevention as well as fire suppression," Chief Arthur A. Scarmack Jr. said.

During his years with the department, Javorsky served on a fire truck committee that visited fire truck manufacturing facilities. The committee wrote the specifications for two new fire trucks purchased by the city.

"Capt. Javorsky's knowledge of radios, electrical appliances and how be a 'Mr. Fix It' enabled him to repair numerous items within the fire department and save the city countless dollars," Scarmack said. "The knowledge that Capt. Javorsky takes with him upon his retirement will be missed, and the knowledge that he leaves within the fire department will be an asset to the remaining firefighters."
